Payouts
Payouts matter when you're choosing where to play. Here's exactly how ours work, for consistency and transparency.
Percent of division revenue
Doesn't apply to The Grand Prize, Carolina Grass Championship or Southern Showdown, which have their own payouts.
Open
Up to 120% when the division has fewer than 12 teams*, plus 5% of revenue from each AA, A and BB division.
AA
of AA division revenue
A
of A division revenue
BB
of BB division revenue
*An Open division under 12 teams is not guaranteed a 120% payout. Percentages are guaranteed for divisions of up to 12 teams, except Open, which is always guaranteed 100%. Once a division exceeds 12 teams, BTB may adjust percentages to keep payout levels appropriate across divisions, reward the highest levels of competition and discourage sandbagging.
Based on revenue actually collected
Division revenue is based on the registration fees actually collected, not just the number of teams. Complimentary entries, free registrations, discounts and credits count only at the amount actually paid.
To protect competitive integrity, and especially to discourage sandbagging into AA, any reduction in Open revenue from comps, discounts or credits is deducted from the revenue used to calculate the AA payout. That keeps lower divisions from paying out more than the top level of competition.
Doubles example
| Division | Teams | Revenue collected | 5% to Open | Payout |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Open | 10 | $800 | +$235 | $1,195 |
| AA | 18 | $1,200† | $60 | $798 |
| A | 28 | $1,820‡ | $91 | $691.60 |
| BB | 24 | $1,680 | $84 | $399 |
† Accounts for 6 players receiving complimentary entry. ‡ Accounts for 4 players receiving complimentary entry.
Cash payouts are a privilege
We strive to offer competitive, rewarding payouts, but cash payouts are a privilege and not an entitlement. All advertised payouts and payout structures are subject to adjustment unless specifically stated otherwise.
Behind the Ball Volleyball may modify, reduce or restructure payouts when reasonably necessary due to increased event costs, exceptionally high or unbalanced division turnout, registration changes, unforeseen expenses or other circumstances affecting the tournament.
We may also withhold or revoke a payout for disrespectful conduct toward tournament staff or other participants. Competitive success doesn't excuse behavior that violates the standards of sportsmanship and respect expected at every BTB event.
